checking page redesign

Credit Union of Georgia — panel system ➜ semantic page

context

Before I took over site management, the Checking page used a paneling system built by a former developer and pushed account details into a busy PDF. This hurt scannability, accessibility, and SEO.

what I changed

  • Replaced panels with a semantic, content-rich page.
  • Built a clean CSS comparison table that lives on the page (no PDF dependency).
  • Clarified CTA hierarchy and next steps for each account.
  • Tuned headings, alt text, link labels, and metadata for search & a11y.
  • Designed on-page assets, including the subtle “Download the App” CSS GIF.

Rewards Checking $7 Up to $15 cashback Open
Student Checking $0 $0 zelle Open
Mini, non-functional sample for layout/UX — the real page uses a richer table with more rows & helper copy.

ux / ia

  • Structured H1–H3 and landmarks; removed duplicate headings.
  • Plan matrix: consistent labels, grouped benefits, fees surfaced plainly.
  • CTA hierarchy: primary “Open account” vs. secondary “Learn more.”
  • Improved focus states & contrast; respects prefers-reduced-motion.

content, seo & search quality

  • Rewrote microcopy; added descriptive links and alt text; tuned meta.
  • SEMrush backlink audit: identified toxic links, compiled a disavow list, and submitted via Google Search Console.
  • Monitored indexed coverage & keyword movement; iterated content accordingly.

results & recognition

Post-launch, search visibility and engagement improved. Google Search Console recognized the page’s performance; at peak it reached ≈70k clicks in 28 days (GSC).

Selected captures showing the move from paneled content + PDF to an on-page, scannable comparison. All assets (including the “Download the App” CSS animation) were designed and implemented by me.
